An AI chatbot in Malaysia costs RM 50 to RM 1,000 per month on a self-serve platform, RM 2,999 to RM 4,800 per month for an enterprise tier or managed service, or or as a scoped custom build. ILMUchat publishes RM 50 per month for Pro, Mampu AI publishes RM 99 to RM 599 per month, LuluChat publishes RM 299 to RM 999 per month, and BixTech publishes a RM 1,000 entry point for a single workflow. WhatsApp conversation fees from Meta are billed separately from all of them. The decision that matters is not which vendor, it is whether your bot has to connect to your CRM, calendar or booking system, because that is what separates a subscription from a build.
What “AI Chatbot Malaysia” Actually Means in 2026
An AI chatbot in Malaysia is a large-language-model assistant that handles customer enquiries, sales questions and bookings on the channels Malaysians already use. In practice that means WhatsApp first, then website chat, Instagram and Facebook Messenger.
The technology is not Malaysian-specific. What is Malaysian-specific is the language mix and the law, and those two things are where most deployments either work or quietly fail.
Malaysian customers code-switch. A single enquiry can move between English, Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin and Tamil, often inside one sentence. A bot that handles English cleanly and everything else awkwardly will read as foreign to a large share of the people using it.
And every one of those conversations is personal data. Customer messages containing a name, a phone number or an IC number fall under the Personal Data Protection Act 2010, and the 2024 amendments added breach notification duties and a data protection officer requirement. National AI policy direction sits with the National AI Office.
What an AI Chatbot Costs in Malaysia
Malaysian chatbot pricing splits into three bands, and which band applies depends on who does the work rather than on how capable the bot is.
Self-serve platform RM 50 – RM 1,000 / month
You build and maintain it. Right when the bot answers questions from content you already have, on one or two channels, and somebody internally will own it.
ILMUchat at RM 50/month Pro, with a free Basic tier
Mampu AI from RM 99 to RM 599/month
LuluChat from RM 299 to RM 999/month, WhatsApp only, no free tier
The Crunch from RM 200/month for platform access, rising to RM 2,500 for a managed scope
Regional platforms such as Respond.io and SleekFlow, priced in USD
Top-tier platform or managed service RM 2,999 – RM 4,800 / month
Either the enterprise tier of a product, or someone else running the platform for you. Right when you want the outcome without hiring, but your use case still fits inside a product.
Mampu AI managed service at RM 3,200 to RM 4,800/month depending on commitment
Usually a 12-month commitment for the lowest rate
Custom build From RM 1,000, typically RM 8,000 – RM 40,000+
An agency scopes, builds and integrates it. Right when the bot has to read from or write to the systems your business actually runs on.
BixTech from RM 1,000 for a single workflow
The Crunch quotes builds on scope, and publishes its monthly rate
Enterprise integrator work runs materially higher and is quoted per project
The figure most buyers miss is the WhatsApp conversation charge. Meta bills per conversation, separately from your platform subscription or agency fee, at rates that vary by country and conversation category. See Meta’s published platform pricing for the current bands.
For a line-by-line breakdown of what goes into a build quote, see our AI chatbot setup cost guide, or the international comparison in our AI chatbot development cost breakdown.
Who Builds AI Chatbots in Malaysia
You should compare before you commit. This is the honest map of the Malaysian market, including the companies we compete with and ourselves. Prices are each vendor’s own published figures, and where a vendor does not publish rates we say so rather than estimate them. Our own row is marked, and it is last on price for a reason: most readers of this page should buy a subscription from someone else on this list.
| Vendor | Type | Published price | What it is good at |
|---|---|---|---|
| ILMUchat | Malaysian AI assistant | RM 0 Basic, RM 50/month Pro | Locally hosted and governed in Malaysia, and explicitly built to handle rojak Malaysian. The strongest local-language positioning of anything on this list. |
| Mampu AI | Self-serve chatbot platform | RM 0 Free Builder, RM 99 Lite, RM 399 Pro, RM 599 Advanced (per month, annual billing) | Tiers are gated on monthly active contacts: 50 free, 150 on Lite, 1,000 on Pro, 2,500 on Advanced. A managed service is offered separately at RM 3,200 to RM 4,800 per month. |
| LuluChat | WhatsApp automation platform | RM 299 Starter, RM 499 Pro, RM 999 Business (per month, billed annually) | WhatsApp-only, run by Black Pocket Technology Sdn Bhd. Metered on both messages and active contacts: 5,000 messages on Starter, 30,000 on Pro, unlimited on Business. No free tier, and quarterly billing costs materially more. |
| BixTech | Custom AI development agency | From RM 1,000 for a single workflow | Kuala Lumpur based, building custom automation and chatbots with multilingual support across Bahasa Malaysia and Mandarin. Enterprise platform work runs far higher. |
| The CrunchTHIS SITE | Custom AI agency | RM 200 to RM 2,500 / month; builds quoted on scope | Us, listed here so this table is complete. Platform access starts at RM 200 per month and a managed scope runs to RM 2,500; a custom build is separate and quoted on scope. Malaysian agency building chatbots and automation since 2019 for SMBs in Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong, across healthcare, retail, property and education, in English, Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin and Cantonese. Mid-tier scope deploys in 30 days. Pay for a build only when the bot has to read from or write to your CRM, calendar or booking system. Below that, a subscription here or on this list is the cheaper answer and we will say so. |
| XIMNET | Enterprise integrator | Not published | Long-established Malaysian digital agency doing enterprise chatbot and platform work. Procurement-friendly, and priced for organisations with an IT department. |
The split is worth noticing as a category signal. Every product company here publishes rates, and the agencies publish a starting figure at most; the enterprise integrator publishes nothing, because project scope varies enormously. The practical consequence is that you can compare the products in an afternoon, but you cannot compare the integrators without entering a sales process.
?Several of the headline figures above are annual-billing rates. LuluChat Business is RM 999 per month billed annually but RM 1,499 billed quarterly, a 50% difference for the same product, and Mampu AI’s published tiers are annual rates too. Before you compare two vendors, check you are comparing the same commitment length.
If your use case is a contained FAQ bot on one channel and somebody will maintain it, a self-serve platform will serve you better and cheaper than hiring any agency on this list, ourselves included. Agencies earn their fee when the automation has to reach into the systems your business actually runs on.
For a head-to-head on that exact trade-off, our comparison hub sets self-serve subscriptions against agency builds across six vendors, with every figure read from the vendor’s own pricing page.
Language: Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin, Tamil and Rojak
This is the part of a Malaysian deployment that generic vendor demos never show you.
Large language models handle Bahasa Malaysia and code-switched Manglish far better than the rule-based bots that shaped most people’s expectations, because they are not matching keywords against a script. Comprehension is largely solved.
Tone is not. A bot can understand the words perfectly and still answer in a register that reads as imported, which costs trust at exactly the moment you are asking someone to book or buy.
?Ask for a live test in the language mix your customers actually use, not a scripted demo. Send it a rojak sentence. Ask it something a Malaysian customer would ask, with local terms in it, and read the reply out loud.
ILMUchat markets directly on this, describing itself as understanding rojak Malaysian with data hosted and governed in Malaysia. The Crunch builds across English, Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin and Cantonese. For language-specific detail see our Malay AI chatbot guide and Mandarin AI chatbot guide.
PDPA: Where Your Conversation Data Lives
Chatbot transcripts are personal data. That is not a grey area, and the 2024 amendments to the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 made the consequences sharper by adding breach notification duties and a data protection officer requirement.
What changes for a buyer is that compliance is now a vendor question, not just a privacy-policy question. Three things to establish before you sign:
(1) Where conversation data is stored, and whether it leaves Malaysia.
(2) Who notifies the Commissioner in a breach, you or the vendor, and within what window.
(3) Whether your transcripts are used to train the vendor’s models, answered in writing rather than in a sales call.
Local hosting is a genuine differentiator here rather than a marketing line. A vendor that keeps data in Malaysia removes an entire category of cross-border transfer questions from your compliance review.
WhatsApp Is the Channel That Matters
In most Malaysian businesses the question of which channel to automate first has one answer. WhatsApp is where customers already message businesses, and launching anywhere else means building a habit rather than meeting one.
Two practical consequences. First, you need WhatsApp Business API access, which comes through a platform or provider rather than the consumer app. Second, Meta bills per conversation on top of every other fee, so your monthly cost scales with volume in a way a flat subscription does not suggest.
Our WhatsApp chatbot Malaysia guide covers the API requirements and setup in detail.
How to Choose: Three Questions That Decide It
Most of the comparison work collapses into three questions.
(1) Does the bot need to read from or write to another system? If yes, you are buying a build, not a subscription, regardless of what the platform demo showed you. This single question moves the budget by an order of magnitude.
(2) Who maintains it in month three? A chatbot is not a launch, it is an operation. If the honest answer is nobody, buy a managed service and stop comparing platforms.
(3) How many languages have to work properly? One language is a product decision. Three or more, handled well enough to sell in, is usually a build.
If you answered no, somebody and one, buy a platform for RM 50 to RM 99 a month. If you answered yes, nobody or three, you are looking at a managed service or a build, and the platform comparison you were about to do will not help you.
If you want to compare the underlying platforms on features rather than on Malaysian fit, our best AI chatbot platform comparison ranks eight of them on published pricing and integration reach.
Why Malaysian Businesses Choose The Crunch
We are one row in the table above, and the honest case for us is not that we beat a RM 50 subscription on price. It is that we are the only vendor here publishing both a monthly rate and a build price, so working out your category does not also mean changing vendor.
Platform access starts at RM 200 per month. A managed scope runs to RM 2,500 a month, and a built-and-integrated system is quoted on scope. Our monthly rate is published on this page rather than given out on request.
Start at RM 200 a month, move to a build without changing vendor
Every other name in the table above is one or the other. ILMUchat, Mampu AI and LuluChat sell software you operate. BixTech and XIMNET sell a build. We publish both, so you can start at RM 200 a month and move up later without migrating to another vendor.
English, Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin and Cantonese
ILMUchat has the strongest rojak and Bahasa positioning of the platforms, and we say so. Cantonese is the one nobody else here publishes, and it is the difference between serving Malaysia and serving customers who also buy from Singapore and Hong Kong.
We connect to what you run, not to what ships with a connector
A platform reaches whatever its connector list reaches. The work that actually breaks projects is the clinic booking system with no public API, or the spreadsheet that runs your stock. That is a build, and it is the reason the price bands on this page differ by an order of magnitude.
Your bill does not rise because the campaign worked
Read the table above again on metering. Mampu AI gates its tiers at 50, 150, 1,000 and 2,500 monthly active contacts. LuluChat meters both messages and contacts. We do not meter either, on any tier, and channels are not rationed one at a time. Growth changes your workload, not your plan.
Campaign spikes are a capacity question, not a pricing event
A metered platform makes a busy month expensive and a viral month a forced upgrade, mid-campaign, while enquiries queue. Running unmetered on the official WhatsApp Business Platform means a spike is handled rather than billed, which matters most in exactly the weeks you least want to be renegotiating a plan.
30 days to live for mid-tier scope with real system integration
Integrator work is quoted per project and scheduled per project. We commit to 30 days for mid-tier scope, the band most Malaysian SMEs buy in. Bigger multi-system builds take longer and we say so at scoping, not after you sign.
Healthcare, retail, property and education since 2019
Regulatory and workflow detail is where generic builds fail: what a clinic may put in a transcript under the PDPA, what a property lead must capture, what retail should never let a bot touch. We have built in those four since 2019.
How Long Deployment Takes
A single-intent bot on a self-serve platform can be live the same day. That is the honest best case and it applies when the bot answers from content you already have and connects to nothing.
Anything touching another system takes weeks, because the work is integration and testing rather than conversation design. Booking systems and payment flows are where timelines stretch, not the conversation itself.
The Crunch works to a 30-day deployment timeline for mid-tier scope with real system integration, working with Malaysian small and medium businesses since 2019.
How We Sourced These Numbers
Every ringgit figure on this page was read off the named vendor’s own public pricing page on the date below, and is linked in the table above so you can check it yourself.
Where a vendor does not publish rates, the table says “not published” rather than carrying an estimate. We have no access to any vendor’s private pricing and present their public information in good faith for comparison.
Regulatory points reference the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 and its 2024 amendments directly. WhatsApp conversation charges are set by Meta and billed independently of any platform or agency fee.
Build-cost ranges combine those published figures with The Crunch’s own delivery records for Malaysian businesses since 2019.
Information last checked: 22 August 2026. Malaysian chatbot pricing moves several times a year and local vendors revise tiers frequently. Where a figure is not published, we say so rather than estimate it. If you represent a company named here and something is inaccurate, contact us and we will correct it within 48 hours.
Frequently Asked Questions: AI Chatbots in Malaysia
01What is an AI chatbot in the Malaysian context?+
An AI chatbot in Malaysia is a large-language-model assistant that handles customer service, sales enquiries and bookings on the channels Malaysians actually use, which in practice means WhatsApp first, then website chat, Instagram and Facebook Messenger.
What separates a Malaysian deployment from a generic one is language and law. Customers switch between English, Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin and Tamil inside a single sentence, and the conversations are personal data under the Personal Data Protection Act 2010.
02How much does an AI chatbot cost in Malaysia?+
Three price bands, and which one applies depends on who does the work rather than on how clever the bot is.
(1) Self-serve platforms run RM 50 to about RM 1,000 per month. ILMUchat is RM 50 per month on Pro; Mampu AI runs RM 99 to RM 599 per month; LuluChat runs RM 299 to RM 999 per month for WhatsApp only. Watch the billing cadence, because several of those are annual rates and quarterly costs more.
(2) Enterprise tiers and managed services run roughly RM 3,200 to RM 4,800 per month. Mampu AI publishes a managed service at RM 3,200 to RM 4,800 depending on commitment length.
(3) Custom builds start from about RM 1,000 for a single workflow and commonly land between RM 8,000 and RM 40,000 depending on integration depth. BixTech publishes a RM 1,000 entry point for a single workflow.
WhatsApp conversation charges from Meta are billed separately from all three. For a full breakdown see our AI chatbot setup cost guide.
03Can an AI chatbot understand Bahasa Malaysia and rojak?+
Modern LLM-based bots handle Bahasa Malaysia and code-switched Manglish far better than the rule-based bots that shaped most people’s expectations, because they are not matching keywords.
The failure mode is not comprehension, it is tone and local reference. A bot that understands the words can still answer in a register that reads as foreign.
ILMUchat markets specifically on this, describing itself as understanding rojak Malaysian and hosting data locally. The Crunch builds across English, Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin and Cantonese. For the language-specific detail see our Malay AI chatbot guide and Mandarin AI chatbot guide.
04Does PDPA apply to chatbot conversations?+
Yes. A customer conversation containing a name, phone number, IC number or any detail that identifies a person is personal data under the Personal Data Protection Act 2010.
The 2024 amendments matter more than the original Act for chatbot buyers. They introduced breach notification duties and a requirement to appoint a data protection officer, which changes what you need from a vendor rather than merely what you need in a privacy policy.
(1) Ask where conversation data is stored and whether it leaves Malaysia.
(2) Ask who notifies the Commissioner in a breach, you or the vendor.
(3) Ask whether transcripts are used to train the vendor’s models, and get the answer in writing.
05Which channel should a Malaysian business start with?+
WhatsApp, in almost every case. It is where Malaysian customers already message businesses, and starting anywhere else usually means building a channel your customers have to be taught to use.
The cost consequence is that Meta charges per conversation on top of whatever you pay your platform or agency, and those rates vary by country and conversation category.
If WhatsApp is your only channel, LuluChat is the Malaysian specialist at RM 299 to RM 999 per month, though being WhatsApp-only makes it the wrong pick if you also need website chat or Instagram in the same inbox. ILMUchat from RM 50 and Mampu AI from RM 99 cover several channels, which usually matters sooner than buyers expect.
Our WhatsApp chatbot Malaysia guide covers the setup and the Business API requirements in detail.
06Should I use a platform or hire an agency?+
Use a platform when the use case is contained, one or two channels are enough, and somebody on your team will own it. It is cheaper, faster and you keep control.
Hire an agency when the bot has to reach into your CRM, calendar, booking system or payment flow, when several languages have to work properly, or when nobody internally will maintain it.
Being direct about it: if you need a single-channel FAQ bot, a RM 50 to RM 99 per month subscription will serve you better and cheaper than hiring anyone, including us.
07How long does an AI chatbot take to deploy in Malaysia?+
A single-intent bot on a self-serve platform can be live the same day. That applies when it answers from content you already have and connects to nothing else.
Anything that reads from or writes to another system takes weeks, because the work is integration and testing rather than conversation design.
The Crunch works to a 30-day deployment timeline for mid-tier scope with real system integration.
08Are there Malaysian AI chatbot vendors, or only foreign platforms?+
Both, and they solve different problems.
(1) Local products: ILMUchat, Mampu AI and LuluChat are Malaysian-built and priced in ringgit.
(2) Local agencies and integrators: BixTech, XIMNET and ourselves at The Crunch build custom rather than sell a subscription.
(3) Regional platforms: Respond.io, SleekFlow and ChatDaddy are strong on WhatsApp but price in USD and are not built around Malaysian regulatory questions.
09What does an AI chatbot actually replace?+
Realistically, it deflects repetitive enquiries and captures leads outside office hours. It does not replace a sales team and it does not replace complex support.
The measurable number to hold a vendor to is deflection rate: the share of conversations resolved without a human. Ask for it as a target before you sign, and measure it after launch.
If a vendor will not commit to a deflection target, that is useful information about how confident they are in the build.
10Which industries in Malaysia get the most out of AI chatbots?+
The pattern is high enquiry volume with repetitive questions and a booking or qualification step at the end.
(1) Healthcare and clinics, where appointment booking dominates. See our healthcare AI chatbot guide.
(2) Property, where the same qualification questions repeat on every listing enquiry. See our property AI chatbot guide.
(3) Retail and e-commerce, where order status and stock questions dominate. See our retail AI chatbot guide.
Education and financial services follow the same shape, with more compliance overhead in the second case.
Working Out Which Option Fits You
If you are still deciding between a RM 99 subscription and a build, that is usually a twenty-minute conversation rather than a project. We will tell you which of the three bands above fits your case, including when the answer is a platform we do not sell.
The Crunch has built AI chatbots and automation for Malaysian small and medium businesses since 2019, across healthcare, retail, property and education, in English, Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin and Cantonese. Platform access starts at RM 200 per month, a managed scope runs to RM 2,500, builds are quoted on scope, and mid-tier scope deploys in 30 days.
